Richmond vice-captain Tim Taranto stood tall against the Pies, polling an impressive seven AFL Coaches' Association votes in the loss.
The star midfielder collected 26 disposals, 11 contested possessions, three marks, an equal game-high and AFL career-high four goals, team-high seven inside-50s, three clearances, seven score involvements and 349 metres gained at the MCG on Saturday evening.
Coach Adem Yze heaped praise on the 28-year-old, who has continued to shine despite results each week.
“We know that he can move forward, but he’s playing a role that is the reason why he’s the vice-captain of our footy club, and that’s the selfless role to give opportunity for our young midfielders,” Yze said.
Each week of the season, the two senior coaches vote on the best players in their respective match, giving 5-4-3-2-1. The maximum votes a player can get is 10 votes a week.
The overall league winner at the end of the season will be crowned the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.
