Hugo Ralphsmith

Richmond suffered a 70-point loss to Collingwood at La Trobe University last Saturday.

Hear from coach Jack Madgen, who has provided an overview of each player's performance in the Round 14 clash.

Kaleb Smith (37 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles, 2 clearances)
"Kaleb was solid off half-back and used the ball really well. He had nine intercepts. I thought his defensive layers were better, which is something he's been working on. Now the challenge is becoming more damaging with ball in hand, to really kick-start our offence off the half-back line."

Hugo Ralphsmith (17 disposals, 3 marks, 1 clearance)
"I thought it was a really high work rate game from Hugo, who was often first one back to help in defence. After the game, a lot of his teammates commended him for his attitude, intent and willingness to help others, which is awesome and a good way to base his game."

Noah Roberts-Thomson (2 goals, 13 disposals, 7 marks)
"Noah finished with two goals, playing a high forward role all day. He ran some really good patterns again. His skill execution can improve, but he was still solid. As we execute our fundamentals better, Noah will get rewarded more for his forward patterns."

Luke Trainor (23 disposals, 10 marks, 2 tackles)
"It was Luke’s first game back in about a month and he had some good moments. He started the game really well aerially, took two contested marks and looked really strong. We will continue to help him put four quarters of really solid, disciplined footy together, and take his game to the next level."

Oliver Hayes-Brown (12 disposals, 12 hit-outs, 4 clearances)
"It was a tough day for the rucks, as they had a few big boys in there. I thought Hayes-Brown was solid, with four clearances, and he spent a bit of time forward as well, just adding to his craft."

Tyler Sonsie (24 disposals, 7 clearances, 5 marks)
"Sonsie was dynamic around the football as a midfielder. He had a team-high 11 contested possessions, and team-high seven clearances. His ball use was pretty solid as well, but we definitely got beaten in the midfield on the day."

Tom Burton (1 goal, 19 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles)
"Tom is an absolute running machine. We would love to see him get used a little bit more on offence, because his patterns are really good. When we use the ball better, he'll get more of the footy and be better for it. We will help work on his execution, but he was solid."

Kane McAuliffe (1 goal, 16 disposals, 6 tackles, 3 clearances)
"Kane kicked an outstanding centre bounce goal and led the team with five tackles and 11 contested possessions. Statistically he played well, but Collingwood's midfielders were stronger. He tackles and hunts the footy with some real intent. We will work on his patterns, as he comes back from injury and re-learns the style."

Samson Ryan (2 goals, 10 disposals, 15 hit-outs)
"Samson finished with two goals. He took a really nice contested mark and spent half the day as a forward and the rest rucking. We love seeing him able to play both positions with confidence."

06:03

Zane Peucker (13 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle)
"Zane had some good patterns out of the stoppage when he was a forward. It was good to see and will be required when he gets a call-up to AFL. Much like the rest of our team, he lacked execution. Once we help him clean that up, his ball use becomes more damaging."

Liam Fawcett (1 goal, 11 disposals, 4 marks)
"Fawcett kicked a goal on the weekend. He lacked a bit of polish with the footy, which is something we lacked as a team on the day. We didn't have many inside-50s, and we couldn’t take our chances well enough when the ball was in our area. We want to see and help Liam take his game to the next level and find his confidence at both levels in the air."

Olli Hotton (20 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 clearances)
"Olli's standout area was his clearance work on the day, having four clearances and five tackles. As a team and individually, our disposal efficiency was not at the level, so naturally execution was down. We definitely saw his strengths with his leg drive through the middle of the ground."

Nick Collier (17 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles)
"I love the way Nick goes about it. He is really tough at the ball. He couldn't break free due to the result, but I love that he's just willing to do whatever is asked of him for the betterment of the team."

Lachlan Street (1 goal, 14 disposals, 5 marks)
"Street played midfield and half-back. It was a tough day, as their midfield challenged us with their ball movement through the corridor. I liked when Street went to half-back in the last quarter and got our ball movement going and took a nice contested mark."

00:33

Leo Connolly (23 disposals, 7 marks)
"I love Leo's ball use, but naturally he struggled on the day due to circumstance. He still had some outstanding moments, but we will help him learn that each movement can be beneficial for the team, no matter how big or small."

Sam Philp (14 disposals, 6 tackles, 3 clearances)
"Philp played midfield and high forward and worked hard. He just lacked the polish we usually see from him. He lacked clean handball execution, and fumbled a bit. We will work on that this week."

Harry Scott (19 disposals, 6 marks, 1 clearance)
"It was a new role for Harry at half-back. He had some really nice aerial moments, took seven intercepts and a contested mark. I loved seeing him adding another string to his bow. I will keep challenging him to be more damaging with ball in hand. Half back's a great role, if you get it right, so we want to help him learn to utilise every opportunity to punish opposition on the rebound."

Aaron Sharkie (21 disposals, 9 marks, 2 clearances)
"Sharkie had a crack on the wing, as well as playing his usual role at half-back. I thought he played the role well for his first time. As we play better and have better ball movement, Sharkie’s strengths will come through, as they have done in multiple games this season."

Josh Pollocks (1 goal, 13 disposals, 10 marks)
"Pollocks competed hard in the air and took 10 marks, which is impressive. We just need to keep working on his leading patterns as a forward. I think we can help him feel more comfortable down there, especially with the AFL players that are in the side to support him."

02:57

Zaydyn Lockwood (5 disposals, 3 marks, 1 clearance)
"Zaydyn had his hands full on the weekend. He competed really hard in the air, with 10 spoils, which is really impressive for a young key defender. I can definitely see the learnings that Taylor Duryea [coach] is teaching him, coming out in his game. He's playing against some good key forwards at the VFL level. At just 19, he's trying his guts out."

Mutaz El Nour (8 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle)
"It was a tough day for Mutaz. He still had two contested marks and seven intercepts. It's probably one of those days where he's trying too hard to get involved in offence, which sometimes runs yourself out of good spots. Mutaz is at his best when he is dominating the contest, and we will endeavour to give him the support to get back there."

Liam George (14 disposals, 8 marks, 2 tackles)
"George played on the wing again. Feels like I'm a broken record here but the fundamental execution required to beat a team like Collingwood...we didn't move the ball very well, so our wingers were a little bit starved out there, so he's a bit of a product of that."

James Milner (8 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle)
"I really like the way James went about his game. I wanted him to bring his hunt and pressure, and I reckon we saw that. He puts his head in the hole as a young player. He needs to just keep tipping into his game and working on execution. I think James has got a real bright future ahead."
