Richmond suffered a 35-point loss to the fast-finishing Blues on Saturday at IKON Park.
Hear from coach Jack Madgen, who has provided an overview of each player's performance in the Round 15 clash.
Tyler Sonsie (13 disposals, 2 tackles, 2 clearances)
"Tyler played as a midfielder and high forward on the day. I thought his intent to help teammates was really impressive, on a day where the footy would not bounce his way a lot of the time. He still had a positive impact without his prolific accumulation."
Zane Peucker (1 goal, 16 disposals, 2 clearances)
"I thought Zane took a step forward in his development. He played a bit more midfield time, which he can take lots from, like growth in stoppage craft. I love it when he gets the ball in our front half, which he did a few times on the weekend. He just needs to keep working on that final execution piece. He always looks lively when he gets the ball in our forward line."
Noah Roberts-Thomson (8 disposals, 1 mark, 1 clearance)
"Similar to a lot of our small forwards, or forwards in general, we lacked the final execution piece on the weekend. Noah's forward patterns are really good, helping us transition the ball from our defence to the goals efficiently."
Samson Ryan (2 goals, 16 disposals, 24 hit-outs, 3 clearances)
"Samson got forward and kicked two goals, having three shots, which was good to see. We lost hit-outs and clearances, so it's a good chance for Samson to review how to nullify bigger rucks, which he will come up against at the AFL level. He uses the ball really well for a big fella, so now we need to help him get cleaner use of the ball at clearance."
Harry Armstrong (1 goal, 2 marks, 1 tackle)
"It was Harry's first game back from injury, playing limited minutes. He almost took mark of the year and also took a really nice contested mark resulting in his goal. He got through the game unscathed, which was really pleasing, and he’s better for the run."
Judson Clarke (1 goal, 12 disposals, 5 marks)
"Juddy brought tremendous energy, kicked a really nice goal, and had some really good moments with ball in hand. He played the wing roll well. You can see his talent on show, despite missing so much footy with his ACL setbacks. It was awesome to see him back playing footy and bring a smile to everyone's face."
Kaleb Smith (13 disposals, 1 tackle)
"Kaleb got off to a really good start and was playing some good footy. Unfortunately, he is now into concussion protocols due to a heavy knock in the game. I'm sure he'll come back with the same strong form he's been in for last month."
Tom Burton (1 goal, 17 disposals, 2 marks)
"Burton ran his forward patterns well. He's an absolute machine out there. I'd like to see us go through him a little bit more with the ball. He's getting to some great spots, but we're not using him, so I think that can help our offence. In turn, when he keeps things simple with ball in hand, he plays above the level. We saw his strengths on the weekend."
Liam Fawcett (9 disposals, 8 marks, 1 tackle)
"Fawcett set the ground up well. He provided us with outlets to use up the ground. His aerial power to compete and bring the ball down when he’s out of position was good. There is still opportunity out there for him to work on his forward craft to really take a game apart, like we saw earlier in the year."
Harry Scott (19 disposals, 8 marks, 2 tackles)
"Harry played behind the ball again this week, and we saw some really good aerial power from him, which is why I like him back there. His defensive craft was good. He made good decisions when to drop off and when to find the body. He slotted in nicely back there. The next step is ensuring he is damaging with ball in hand. I think that can help him take the next step and be really, really damaging back there."
Lachlan Street (14 disposals, 3 tackles, 2 marks)
"Street was very good down back. He was physical and nullified his opponent early. The next step is helping him command the defence line with his leadership skills. He was solid with ball in hand, but we're keen to see him step up."
Mutaz El Nour (15 disposals, 9 marks)
"It was a tail of two halves for Mutaz. I thought he got off to a bit of a slow start, but then the second half was really dominant. His intercept mark game was good and his ball use is getting better and better. He's executing at a higher level."
Leo Connolly (15 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles)
"We started Leo as a midfielder, and then he went to half-back to gain confidence at the main break. We still need Leo to keep tipping into the contest side of the game, so he can win a bit more of his own ball, because we love what we see in other aspects of his game."
Olli Hotton (25 disposals, 6 tackles, 6 clearances)
"Hotton played on ball. I thought we saw his strength in his stoppage work and his leg drive, which was good to see. It was one of his better games in staying attached to stoppage and putting on some pressure."
Nick Collier (2 goals, 21 disposals, 7 marks)
"Nick played at half-back, and again was one of our strongest. He kicked two goals too. He was close to perfect. Now, we want to see his stoppage work go to the next level. We'll go through that with Nick and give him strategies to rectify that in the future."
Sam Philp (12 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 clearances)
"I thought Philp's pressure and hunt was good on the day. We want to see him find the balance of staying attached, or hunting for the ball. We will help him work through his midfield craft and bring those strengths to light."
Liam George (7 disposals, 3 marks, 1 clearance)
"It was a quiet game for George as a high forward. He's got a few tricks and is pretty evasive, but we will work on digging deeper with his game. We want to see him liven up the contest and focus on defence and the rest will take care of itself."
Zaydyn Lockwood (6 disposals, 2 tackles)
"Zaydyn had some really nice defensive moments on the weekend and played against some crafty forwards. He defended a lot better, and we commend his growth. We will work on his positioning in the coming weeks, and understanding how to support teammates down back."
Kane Loftus (10 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles)
"Loftus played on a wing all day and I thought we saw some good stuff with his positioning and his leg drive. We saw his athleticism. He made some good decisions as a winger, but we want to see improvement in his defensive side. It’s probably the hardest decision to make as a winger. He's seen the vision and will be able to help make better decisions in the future."
Josh Pollocks (1 goal, 8 disposals, 5 marks)
"Pollocks had some good moments with ball in hand. What I'd love to see from Josh is making decisions when he doesn't have the ball, regarding positioning. His forward patterns and craft can still improve, which is exciting, because he’s still getting good looks out there."
James Milner (1 goal, 11 disposals, 1 clearance)
"James had three shots on goal and took a really nice hanger. It’s only his third game at the level, so we just keep imploring him to work on the fundamentals, and we'll give him a few strategies that might be able to help him be a little bit cleaner, because he was doing a lot of good stuff out there."
Aaron Sharkie (15 disposals, 4 marks, 2 clearances)
"Sharkie played on the wing and at half-back and didn’t have the same impact that he usually does playing those positions. He had a few moments where we needed him to be really be strong in the contest, or drive his legs and use his weapons, but we probably just didn't see that as much from him on the weekend as we usually do. He knows what he has to work on to keep getting better, so that's the same going forward for him."
Sam Phillips (9 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles)
"I thought Sam was pretty good on the day, and had some nice moments ball in hand. He played his role okay. He also defended his man well and really aided the team's defence."
