Richmond fell at the last hurdle as it went down to ladder-leaders Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

Hear from coach Jack Madgen, who has provided an overview of each player's performance in the Round 16 clash.

Tyler Sonsie (32 disposals, 10 clearances, 3 marks, 3 tackles)
"Sonsie played pretty well on the weekend in what was a tale of two halves. He fought until the end and I could see him sticking to the process when things got away from us."

Liam Fawcett (3 goals, 6 disposals, 3 marks)
"Fawcett had a pretty good three quarters. He hit the scoreboard and ran some good patterns to help our offence. We could have finished his aerial work off a bit better, so we will get to work on that this week."

Samson Ryan (41 hit-outs, 12 disposals, 4 clearances)
"Samson got his hand to the ball a lot in the ruck contests, but we weren’t able to connect with our midfielders so much. We need to keep working on that, as when we can win a clearance, we are a good team. He proved a good aerial contest as well."

Harry Armstrong (1 goal, 4 disposals, 2 marks)
"Similar to our other forwards, we couldn’t move the ball well enough in the second half for Harry to have a big impact. I thought he competed hard in the air, when often outnumbered."

Tom Sims (2 disposals, 1 tackle)
"It was great to see Sims get through the game unscathed, playing limited minutes. He'll gain confidence from the run."

Tom Burton (1 goal, 16 disposals, 3 tackles)
"Tom played his role well on the day. I thought he ran his patterns well, but we just couldn’t get the ball to him enough. He can still improve on his craft at this level. He is agile and gets the ball in traffic, now he needs to use some craft and technique to set his teammates up with his disposal."

Judson Clarke (13 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles)
"Juddy played on the wing all day. Unfortunately, we could not access the open side of the ground very well, so he was starved of opportunity. When he got the ball, good things usually happened."

James Milner (2 goals, 16 disposals, 10 tackles, 5 clearances)
"James took a step forward in his development on the weekend. He played largely as a midfielder, and was up against some elite competition. I thought he battled hard. He finished okay, and we will work on his ability to run out a game strongly this week."

Olli Hotton (24 disposals, 11 tackles, 8 clearances)
"Similar to our other midfielders, Hotton battled hard, but we got beaten inside on the day. We saw his strengths at times, but it was a bit of a slog. It was good to see Olli playing good footy, especially in the first half, at the level we know he's capable of."

00:47

Sam Philp (20 disposals, 6 tackles, 4 clearances)
"He fought hard, but we got out matched in the midfield. Sam ran some good patterns and got his hands on the footy. I think his craft can go to another level, and I'd love to see him be strong and drive his legs to help his teammates."

Nick Collier (23 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles)
"I probably missed an opportunity to release Nick in the midfield a bit earlier in the game but he is so reliable in the backline. He was strong in the contest and worked really hard all day."

Sam Toner (2 goals, 14 disposals, 3 tackles)
"It was great to see Sam back out there after a month off footy. He single-handedly got us back in the game late in the second quarter. His forward craft was a highlight."

Mutaz El Nour (17 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles)
"Mutaz saw plenty of the footy on the weekend. I would have loved to see him impact a few more contests with really strong defensive positioning. It is hard when the ball is coming in quickly though. He used the ball well. Now, we'll help build our defence."

Harry Scott (12 disposals, 7 tackles, 2 marks)
"Similar to the rest of our backs, we struggled to defend. Scotty has looked really solid down back, and I love it when he brings his aerial strength and is looking to get involved in our offence out of the back half."

00:27

Josh Pollocks (11 disposals, 3 tackles, 2 marks)
"Pollocks had a tough day down back. He was in a lot of contests and won or halved a few of them, but got caught in the front position too early. He battled hard. The next challenge is competing harder in the air."

Zach O’Keefe (1 goal, 13 disposals, 5 tackles)
"Zach played his first game and kicked a really nice goal in the first quarter. I thought he well and truly looked at the level. He played the forward role pretty well and looked hard to play against in the backline late."

Lachlan Street (16 disposals, 2 marks)
"Street tried hard all day in the backline. He let himself down in a couple of contests, but largely looked hard to play against and had a good balance of offence and defence."

Sam Phillips (12 disposals, 2 tackles)
"Similar to our other defenders, Sam found it hard on the day to defend Geelong's entries. He was in a lot of contests and won a few, but also got beaten in a couple. I really liked his ball use and his willingness to see and hit the pack."

Leo Connolly (17 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles)
"We did not utilise Leo’s skill set well enough on the weekend. He could not shift the ball off the line. We saw his strengths at times, but not enough to have the impact on games we need him to have, which was on us as a team."

03:15

Liam George (15 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles)
"George played his 50th game for the Tigers on the weekend. He played as a wing and half-forward. He played his role as well as he could under the circumstances. I would have loved to see him run the game out better. I thought we saw an improvement with his decision making and execution with ball in hand."

Tom McKenzie (11 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle)
"Tom played as a high back and high forward on the weekend. He set up a few goals in the first half when we were playing some good footy. I challenge Tom to be able to finish games really strongly. I need his effort and intent to be at the level, no matter what the outcome is."

Kane Loftus (1 goal, 11 disposals, 4 tackles)
"Similar to our other wingers, Kane had some good moments when we used the ball and used our numbers well. But we could not shift the ball well enough to get our outside players involved. He kicked his first goal for the Club off an awesome tackle."

Mohammed Yassine (6 disposals, 5 tackles)
"Moey got off to a good start. He had some good impact early in the game. Unfortunately, the effort and intent lacked by the end of the game."
