AFLW coach Jarrad Donders has made many changes in the pre-season, and the signs are positive with Round 1 fast approaching.
Donders' Tigers claimed an impressive 16-point win over Fremantle in Perth in an official practice match on Saturday afternoon.
Not only was it a win, but Richmond showcased a new style with impressive, fast-paced football. It's a plan and pathway Donders and his coaching staff have focused on across the ground.
"To get our highest score in a long time is really pleasing, we want to be a high scoring team," Donders said post-match.
Thanks to some magnet shuffling, the Tigers were potent in the attacking half, with Caitlin Greiser benefiting from a new-look forward line.
"With Gabby Seymour and Olivia Wolmarans down there assisting Greiser, it adds some great height and key forward potential to what our mix looks like. Whether we go small forwards or key forward mix, we've got lots of different avenues that we can use," Donders said.
Greiser would go on to collect 13 disposals and kick two crucial goals in the victory.
But it's also a testament to the added fire-power within the midfield that helped Richmond's forwards flourish away from home.
"I thought the midfield did a really great job, with the likes of Sierra Grieves, Ellie McKenzie, Monique Conti, Dana East playing against her old side and Emelia Yassir," Donders said.
"We spoke to them and we've been building over the last three weeks on how we wanted it to look in there. They did a terrific job across all phases of our game."
As a whole, Donders and his coaching staff are slowly but surely building a foundation for sustained success, that they expect to be on show against Hawthorn in their final match simulation this weekend before Round 1, and beyond.
"We're building a fair bit of belief around the way that we want to play. We are continually implementing and reinforcing our phases," he said.
"If we continue to have that mindset, I have no doubt we will get the success that we're after. We're really pleased with the group, but have lots to continue to work on, but it's an awesome start to get a win in the official practice match.
"In the game, [we were] really please with our phases, and what we're implementing this season to play against the competition's best."
Richmond takes on Hawthorn this Sunday from 1pm at the Kennedy Community Centre. Round 1 against Collingwood is set for Saturday 15 August from 7.15pm at IKON Park.
