Tom Lynch

Richmond veteran Tom Lynch has signed on for the 2027 AFL season.

The fresh contract extension will see the 33-year-old enter a ninth season at Richmond and his 17th in the AFL.

Lynch recently played his 250th game and has also booted 505 goals across a stellar career. He has 251 majors from his 119 AFL games as a Tiger and was the 2022 Jack Dyer Medallist.

The 199cm focal point in attack remains a key part of Richmond’s team. He ranks #6 in the AFL competition for contested marks per game and is fourth among forwards.

Lynch, who is also a member of the Club’s AFL leadership group, provides important foil and guidance for the Tigers’ emerging key forwards.

Richmond Executive General Manager- Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said that Lynch’s longevity in the game was a testament to his character and preparation.

“Tom is a great leader for us both on and off the field, and we are pleased that he will be continuing on in 2027,” he said.

“We are a better team with Tom in it, and he sets great standards and will continue to play an important role in the development of the young talls in our forward line.

“To play into a 17th season at the highest level is an incredible achievement and a credit to him.

"We are all looking forward to seeing Tom back out on the field next year.”

Richmond coach Adem Yze has spoken often about Lynch’s importance to the team, given the Tigers’ youthful forward stocks.

The Club drafted a trio of key position forwards in its 2024 National Draft crop, with Tom Sims, Harry Armstrong and Jonty Faull all benefiting from Lynch in the past two years.

Mature-aged recruit Mykelti Lefau is also just 31 games into his AFL career, making Lynch's experience pivotal.
