Richmond has advised AFL players Kaleb Smith and Liam Fawcett that they will not be offered contracts for the 2027 season.

Smith played 12 games for Richmond across four years after being selected with pick No. 49 in the 2022 AFL National Draft.

The 21-year-old West Australian missed the entirety of his first season with a foot injury before playing four games in 2024 and eight in 2025.

Smith was unable to break through for an AFL game this year, with groin and quad injuries both sides of a solid run of VFL form limiting his opportunities.

Fawcett was selected with pick No. 43 overall in the 2023 National Draft after moving from South Australia to begin his AFL career.

The key forward played eight AFL games across three seasons with Richmond, kicking 12 goals.

Fawcett missed most of his debut season with a back stress issue and was also unavailable for a chunk of football last year due to a syndesmosis injury.

The 21-year-old played seven AFL games this season, including two matches in which he kicked three goals, but did not feature at AFL level after Round 15.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley thanked both players for their hard work and positive attitudes across their time at the Club.

“It is always a difficult time of year when we need to make these list decisions," he said.

"Both players moved interstate to start their AFL careers and put their best foot forward during their time at the Club.

“We wish them well for their future pursuits on and off the field.”
