Jarrad Donders

Despite Richmond’s 25-point loss to Walyalup on the weekend, Head Coach Jarrad Donders was pleased with the team’s pressure on the ball.

However, he has stressed the importance of executing the game plan across all four quarters and staying consistent for longer.

“Our pressure and tackling efficiency were a really pleasing factor. We sat really high with our pressure rating and tackles,” Donders said post-game.

“Time in the forward half and inside 50s has been a strength of ours, but we fell away in that area of the game.

“It’s just about coming back to consistency and execution in what we are building. You get wins in one area, and then you fall away slightly in other areas.”

Star Richmond midfielder Mon Conti was a late withdrawal in Round 4 due to Achilles soreness, but Donders was pleased with his midfield crop, particularly the craft of speedy youngster Isabel Bacon, who had a career-high 24 disposals.

“We have full belief in our squad, so anyone who steps in, it’s next Tiger up,” Donders said.

“I was really pleased with the work of Bacs (Isabel Bacon) and Fordy through the midfield.

“Especially Bacs, she did a really good job with career-high disposals. We couldn’t quite get on top of stoppage early in the game, and then we ended up coming out with plus numbers for clearance and first possession.”

“I was really happy with our young brigade through there. We have a lot of players still sitting under 25-games, who are playing games for us, which is an exciting piece when we are really looking to establish and improve in this first year of new administration.”

Having played most of the season as a forward, Donders made the tactical decision to swing Co-Captain Gabby Seymour back into defence to add another number behind the ball.

Seymour's experience as a defender proved pivotal for the team after losing recruit Fina Dethlefsen down back.

“With Fina coming out, we threw Gabs behind the ball, which we haven’t done at all this year but she has done a lot of in the past,” he said.

“It’s something we looked at and had a reasonable effect, I thought, but it’s just making sure there is development of players across a couple of positions is really important for where we want to go with the successes of our program.”

Richmond will now prepare to take on St Kilda this Sunday at Windy Hill from 1:05pm. Get tickets HERE.
