Richmond legends will be honoured with new medals to be awarded on the Club’s Best and Fairest night.

The Jack Dyer Medal will still be awarded to the winner of the Best and Fairest. Dyer, best known as Captain Blood, is an icon of the Club.

He played 311 games from 1931-1949, winning five Best and Fairests (1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1946) and two premierships (1934, 1943), before going on to coach the Tigers for 222 games from 1941-1952, leading them to the flag in 1943.

Dyer’s long list of accolades also includes being a Richmond Immortal, the captain of the Club’s Team of the Century, a member of the AFL Team of the Century, and AFL Hall of Fame Legend.

The 2026 Jack Dyer Medal will take place on Tuesday night and will be live streamed on the Richmond website and app, brought to you by Hostplus

The second placed player will be awarded the Kevin Bartlett Medal, which was previously given to the fifth placed winner.

Bartlett is a five-time Jack Dyer Medallist (1967, 1968, 1973, 1974, 1977) and five-time premiership player (1967, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1980).

He played 403 games, just one of six players in AFL history to hit the 400-game milestone, and is a Club Immortal.

The third placed player will now win the Roy Wright Medal.

A four-time Jack Dyer Medallist (1951, 1952, 1954, 1957) and dual Brownlow Medallist (1952, 1954), Wright played 195 games for the Tigers from 1946-1959.

Wright was elevated to Richmond Immortal status earlier this year, becoming just the 10th player in Club history to earn that title.

The fourth placed player will win the Trent Cotchin Medal, recognising one of the Tiger greats from the recent premiership era.

Cotchin captained Richmond in the 2017, 2019 and 2020 flags, winning a trio of Jack Dyer Medals in 2011, 2012 and 2014. He also won the Brownlow Medal in 2012.

The 306-gamer ended his storied career in 2023 and will always be a fan favourite amongst the Tiger Army.

The fifth placed player will win the Jack Titus Medal, which was previously given to the second placed winner.

Titus is a dual Jack Dyer Medallist (1929, 1941) and is one of the greatest goalkickers in Club history, leading the goalkicking 11 times in his career (1929-1930, 1934-1942).

Titus booted 970 goals in his 294-game Richmond career from 1926-1943.

Richmond CEO Shane Dunne said that the changes were made to ensure the Jack Dyer Medal placegetter awards more appropriately reflected the history of the prestigious football award.

“We felt it was time to recognise two Richmond greats in Roy Wright and Trent Cotchin, while ensuring the four awards collectively acknowledge Jack Dyer Medallists from a multitude of generations,” he said.

“It was also important to us to elevate the Kevin Bartlett Medal from fifth to second. His resume speaks for itself, and our History & Traditions Committee was unanimous in its decision to recognise Kevin with the top honour after the Jack Dyer Medal.

“The Club has been in contact with the families, who were understanding of the decision and grateful to have had the honour across decades.”
