Second-year star Sierra Grieves is looking forward to Richmond playing with freedom across the final two weeks of the season, as it looks to snap a four-game losing streak.
Despite Richmond’s Round 10 loss to an in-form Melbourne outfit last Friday night, Grieves believes there is still plenty to achieve in challenges against Gold Coast and North Melbourne over the next fortnight.
“I don’t think the scoreboard was representative of how we played. We just need to clean up our skills and stick to our brand of footy,” Grieves said.
“We have nothing to lose, so we just have to go out there and play with freedom, play our brand of footy and smash it.
“We’ve got a good couple of weeks coming up, so it should be good.”
Grieves was a standout last week, amassing 20 disposals, seven tackles and 264 meters gained, proving to be a strong ball winner in the midfield.
Coach Jarrad Donders praised several Tigers for their efforts to stay in the contest and make a real impact against a strong opposition last weekend.
“Poppy [Kelly], in my opinion, goes underrated in the competition as a ruck,” Donders said.
“She has been really consistent all year, and she has elevated her game from last year and is someone who should get more recognition throughout the competition.
“[Olivia] Wolmarans continues to elevate her game every week, and we’ve shown once we can get it [the ball] in there, what her capabilities are. So, for her to keep performing with the entries that we are getting is super exciting for us as a Club.
“I thought Montana McKinnon was exceptional on Tayla Harris in only her fifth game back and Grieves was quite good through the midfield as well.”
Donders said the Tigers will continue to measure themselves on their internal process and will look to bounce back strongly against the Suns this Saturday.
“Internally, we talk about growth and progress, and we’ve got some KPI’s that we look at, and we want to be successful at, but we’ve also got some subjective measurements that we continually reflect upon at this stage of our journey as we progress forward,” he said.
“There are glimpses of progress in the way that we want to play, and we’ve obviously had a few injuries throughout the season as well, but we are starting to get a few players back now, which is nice.
“The objective and subjective measures we have internally will be what we drive our game on and what we continue to reflect upon to finish off the season well.”
