‘Roar Vision’ caught up with Richmond’s mature-age rookie-list recruit Kane Lambert to find out how he’s settled into the AFL scene at Tigerland, following several excellent years at VFL level, and what he hopes to achieve in season 2015.  Here’s how Lambert responded . . .

Finally gaining an AFL opportunity

“It’s been fantastic.  At the start, obviously, a little bit of a change in lifestyle, but now I’m here, couldn’t be happier for the opportunity.  I suppose after four, five, six years, a little bit of doubt starts to creep in . . . but you always have that burning desire, and I think that’s what’s driven me over the past few years.

Thankful for VFL time

“Playing three years at the Northern Blues, I was very grateful for what they gave me, and Williamstown for the one year.  It was a fantastic opportunity with a good club in Williamstown.  Those clubs were incredible for me and my development . . . Both of them played their role in getting me here.

AFL aims for 2015

“I just want to improve every day.  Always had, at the back of my mind, what I could achieve being a full-time footballer, and now I’m here I’m just trying to make the most of every opportunity.  This is a great opportunity for me to be able to show what I can do, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Learning the trade at Tigerland

“There are a number of great players at this club, and you try to get as much as you can off all of them.  I know Shaun Grigg’s been great for me.  He’s my mentor and he’s always helping me out.

What he brings to the table

Hopefully, I know my role, play my structures, and give my all for the team.  Get some inside ball, a little bit of outside, and maybe go forward and kick a couple of goals as well.

The final word

“It gives you a lot of confidence you’ve played a number of years of senior footy against virtually AFL-listed players.  So hope I can take that into the upcoming season . . . I want to get better at everything I can.  Any little deficiency I want to work on.  I work on a day-by-day basis and, whatever happens, happens.”
