Tigers up for the fight
Regardless of the slim mathematical possibility of a finals berth this season, it’s full steam ahead for Richmond in the remaining three rounds.
The Tigers are two games out of the top eight and face a Fremantle side that has won five of its past six games, in a big match at Patersons Stadium this Saturday afternoon.
But, as livewire small forward, Jake King, pointed out at a press conference today, they are right up for the challenge . . .
“We need a lot of things to go our way to make finals, so the only thing we can do is play week by week and make sure we get over the line and get the four points,” King said.
“We need other things to go our way, but in saying that, it’s a good opportunity to beat these sides, who are in the same spot as what we are.
“If that means we beat those guys and they lose their opportunity to play finals, then we’re doing something right, too . . .
“It’s a case of let’s control what we can control, and that’s week by week and finishing off the season strongly.”
Fremantle upset Richmond at the MCG in wet conditions back in Round 11, and the Tigers will go into Saturday’s match as outsiders, but King said they are looking forward to taking the Dockers on.
“We get the opportunity to play them over there on their big stage and, hopefully, we get the four points this time,” he said.
“It’s not revenge, it’s just that you want to make amends . . . you want to do the right thing by the fans and by Damien (Hardwick) and everyone else at the Club.
“What better way then finish off strongly and beat Freo over there because they’re going to be a tough side and to get a win over there would actually be a big boost for all the playing group.
“It’s a big ground and we’ve got a lot of leg speed in our side, so, hopefully, it works in our favour.”
