Great football programs are shaped by the environments in which they operate.
The redevelopment of the Swinburne Centre, Punt Road Oval and the establishment of the William Cooper Centre is critical to the future of the Richmond Football Club. It will strengthen the Club's capacity to deliver on-field success across its men's and women's programs, further deepen our community engagement and create a welcoming environment for our members and supporters.
Most importantly, it will ensure Richmond remains in Richmond.
Punt Road Oval has been the home of Richmond for more than 135 years – this redevelopment will ensure that remains the case long into the future.
This redevelopment will enable us to:
- Create equitable, state-of-the-art facilities for our women's program for us to all enjoy AFLW game days at the Swinburne Centre, Punt Road
- Further enhance the facilities for our men's AFL and VFL programs
- Rebuild the Jack Dyer Stand with seating for 1,400 spectators and an increased venue capacity of 4,000 supporters. With flexible infrastructure enhancements, Punt Road Oval will also be able to welcome up to 6,500 spectators for select major events.
- Enhance elite performance outcomes by realigning and resizing the oval to match MCG dimensions.
- Create improved education spaces and classrooms for the Korin Gamadji Institute and Melbourne Indigenous Transition School, further enhancing our capacity to empower the next generation of leaders
- Provide a home to the Bachar Houli Foundation
- Enhance the usability and footprint of Yarra Park greenspace for community use
These state-of-the-art facilities will give our elite athletes every chance to succeed and engage our community more deeply than ever before.
We are incredibly grateful for the contributions made toward the redevelopment so far by the Federal Government, the Victorian State Government, the AFL and our incredible Tiger Army. However, a funding shortfall of $25 million remains to complete the project in its entirety.
