David Astbury saves a goal in trademark fashion during the final quarter of yesterday's draw with Hawthorn.

David Astbury produced one of the best player farewell performances in Richmond’s history against Hawthorn at the MCG yesterday.

The triple Tiger premiership defender, who announced his retirement earlier in the week, was superb right throughout the match.

He had an individual season-high 20 disposals, seven intercepts and took a game-high/season-high 13 marks in the drawn final home-and-away round clash.

It was a display that put an exclamation mark on Astbury’s on-field importance to the Richmond line-up during the Club’s golden era of the past few years.

While the likes of Dylan Grimes, Nick Vlastuin, Bachar Houli and Alex Rance were front and square in terms of receiving external plaudits for their excellence across the Tigers’ backline, Astbury managed to go under the radar.

Within Tigerland’s four walls, however, Astbury has always been held in the highest esteem.
