Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has strongly endorsed his new assistant coach David Teague.

The Tigers yesterday announced Teague’s appointment and Hardwick believes the former Carlton senior coach will significantly bolster the coaching panel at Punt Road.

“We obviously like David. He’s coached the backs at West Coast, he’s coached the forwards at Adelaide, had great success there,” Hardwick said on Fox Footy’s AFL 360.

“Sometimes I think what happens is you can have a go at senior coaching, and you can come back, and you can learn a lot. And I’ve got no doubt David has.

“We’ve had some great conversations. He’ll be involved at our forward end, whether it’s forwards or our offense, we’re not quite sure yet, we haven’t solidified that. But we’re really excited to welcome him on board.

“He’s a great coach, got great knowledge, fantastic ‘fella’... it’s a big win for us.
