While Richmond AFLW didn't come away with the desired result against Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon at Metricon Stadium, Tiger Kate Dempsey says the team will "lick their wounds and be better for it next week".

The 26-year-old winger said the post-match message to the group from coach Ryan Ferguson was to focus on making the most of their moments when they arise.

"That's something we're trying to work on a lot as a team, taking our moments when they come to us," she said.

"We're very team-orientated, we keep coming back to one another, and we're building something very special behind the scenes.

"Sometimes it doesn't come out on the track and sometimes it does."

While Dempsey said it was good to see the Tigers' high-pressure brand come through in glimpses, the team needed to hold that for longer periods of time.

"It's always great when we can come back to that pressure game, it's what we build our entire game and foundation on," she said.

Now in her third AFLW season, Dempsey produced her best game of the season so far, amassing 19 disposals, eight marks, her first AFLW goal, and three coaches' votes. Fellow Tiger Sarah Hosking also featured in the coaches' votes, polling two votes.

"I think I've been building pretty well, I had a slower start to the season...but the last couple of weeks things are pulling together for me," Dempsey said.

"I'm still trying to process (the goal) myself...It's been a long time coming, about three seasons in the making."

Dempsey said this weekend's Round 5 clash at Whitten Oval against the Western Bulldogs would be a crucial opportunity for the Tigers to bounce back.

"Responding was something that we really wanted to do this week, so now we've got a double response coming against the Bulldogs," she said.

"We owe one for our skipper, we haven't actually got one over the Bulldogs in the VFLW or AFLW since Katie's come here, so there's a little bit of fire in the belly to get that one done."
