Coburg suffered a disappointing 19-point loss to bottom team Frankston in yesterday’s VFL match at Highgate Reserve in Craigieburn - 10.14 (74) to 14.9 (93).
It was Frankston first win since early last season, consigning Coburg to the tail of the ladder without a win in 2011.
Coburg failed to capitalise with the aid of a strong wind in the first quarter, which proved to be a decisive factor in the final outcome.
For Coburg, Richmond rookie-list player Tom Hislop continued his good form on the comeback trail from a severe knee injury. Hislop won plenty of ball, in his trademark in-and-under style, and worked tirelessly to bring teammates into the game.
Young Richmond-listed forward Dean MacDonald, in his first game for Coburg’s seniors, kicked a goal and showed some promising signs.
The other plus on the day, from a Richmond perspective, was the fact talented key forward Ben Griffiths took another significant step in his comeback from a shoulder reconstruction, playing his first game for the season at senior VFL level.
