Tom Lynch expressed gratitude for the great support provided to him by Richmond coach Damien Hardwick in his acceptance speech after winning the 2022 Jack Dyer Medal last night.

The dual Richmond premiership star key forward has been harshly criticised at times by the football media throughout his four-year career with the Tigers after joining the Club from Gold Coast via the AFL’s free agency system.

Hardwick, however, has always been steadfast in his backing of Lynch.

“When you come back to Melbourne you cop that media attention. But I’d just like to thank Dimma,” Lynch said.

“Every time I had knockers, he’d come out swinging, much to his detriment at times.

“It was just amazing the support to know you’ve got the senior coach in your corner and he’ll back you to the hilt.

“So, just very grateful for having him.”

Lynch also paid tribute to veteran Richmond key forward star Jack Riewoldt for the assistance he has provided him with.

“He’s been amazing for me and a massive mentor since I’ve come to the football club,” Lynch said.

“I’ve loved playing alongside him and I’m really rapt he’s going around for another season.

“We’ve just worked as a partnership from the outset and I’m very grateful for that.”
