To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tigers’ 1974 premiership, Richmond Media is transporting Yellow and Black barrackers back in time throughout 2024 to follow the Punt Road path to that tremendous triumph. Today, we take a look at an article in The Age newspaper by Mike Sheahan about 1973 premiership Tiger Kevin Morris being strongly enticed to join the WA Tigers, Claremont.

Dashing Richmond utility player Kevin Morris has had a $12,000 a year offer from West Australian club Claremont.

Morris, 22, has been offered $6000 a season, a job and accommodation . . . He is believed to be keen to move to Perth.

He was disappointed to miss selection in Richmond’s premiership 18 last year and sees Claremont’s offer the chance to secure his future.

Morris has played 55 games since joining the Tigers from Waverley in 1971.

Richmond secretary Mr. Alan Schwab said last night: “Claremont or any interstate club interested in Kevin Morris can go to hell.

“He’s been playing well in the centre in practice games and he could quite easily line up there in the first game.

“We’re good friends with Claremont, but if they want to play games, things will change.

“It’s a huge joke to think that Morris would be cleared.”
