Richmond great Matthew Richardson was taken with the forward craft displayed by Mykelti Lefau in the Tigers’ match against West Coast last Sunday.

Lefau, in just his fourth AFL game after being recruited by Richmond as an AFL pre-season supplementary selection, took eight marks, including a team-high six grabs inside the Tigers’ forward-50 area, kicked three goals, had six score involvements, five tackles and 325 metres gained.

Richo is excited about Lefau’s prospects in Richmond’s forward line.

“He springs up out of the ground . . . If you put the ball out in front of him and he gets a run at it, good luck defending him because his vertical leap’s so high,” Richardson said on the Club’s Talking Tigers podcast.

“He finished with three goals and could have kicked five.

“I reckon the strides he’s made since his first game are enormous.

“He just showed what he can do with his hands, and his marking ability, which probably we hadn’t seen. We’d seen some other stuff, but not that. And he timed his leads well.

“The silver lining with all the Club’s injuries is you’re going to play every week.”
