Richmond defender Beth Lynch has explained the moment when she decided to “go for it”, which led to her spectacular mark against the Western Bulldogs.

Lynch’s courageous mark, where she reached over the top of Ellie Blackburn while running back with the flight of the ball, will go down as one of the highlights of the Tigers' AFLW season.

Speaking on the latest edition of Moments That Make Us, Lynch provided an insight into her thought process behind the impressive grab.

"As our backline coach Fluff (Chris Muratore) said to me after the game, he said, 'thank god you took that mark because you let her (Blackburn) get goal side of you’, which is a big no-no,” Lynch said.

"Running back, I saw the ball up in the air and I knew she was on the wrong side of me, and I thought well, I’m not going to make it to face and jump, so I need to make sure I jump backwards and try and get my hands (on the ball) to at least spoil it or just grab it.

"There was a bit of thought process, like ‘I need to launch at this one’, I just thought, I’ve got to go for this and hopefully get up unscathed."

Last Sunday’s clash with the Bulldogs was Lynch’s first game of the season after recovering from a shoulder injury.

The defender added she "didn't think about my shoulder once” while she was running back with the flight of the ball, and said she had pulled up well from the game.

As a much-loved member of the team, Lynch won the Players' Player award last season and has been voted into the leadership group, highlighting her importance to the AFLW program.

"I would like to think the reason I was voted in (the leadership group) is because people know I'll have their back and I’m going to say what I need to say for the betterment of the team,” Lynch said.

"If there’s a problem or something we need to fix, I’m more than happy to drive that."

The Tigers will hope to record their first win of the season on Friday night when they face the Bombers in Dreamtime in Darwin.
