It’s one thing to meet your idols, and it’s another to spark up a friendship with them.

Enter Tiger duo, Dustin Martin and Ellie McKenzie.

On the Moments that Make Us podcast, McKenzie reflected on the time she worked alongside the Richmond great and three-time Norm Smith Medallist.

“I was lucky enough to do a little bit with him, throughout his time before he left Richmond,” McKenzie said.

“It was cool to have a really big men’s payer like that invest in female football and invest in me as well.”

The pair share similar playing styles, both capable of winning the ball through the midfield while also able to swing up forward and kick goals.

McKenzie has stood tall for her side this season, averaging 22 disposals, five tackles, four clearances, and 360 meters gained.

The 22-year-old reflected on her consultations with Martin and how they helped shape her game.

“We did some one-on-one vision stuff, looking at my clips and just picking his brain,” McKenzie said.

“He sort of reached out and said, 'if you need anything from me, I’m always here, and if you want to get coffee'.

“Just a few times, nothing major, but enough to definitely make an impact, which is cool.”

Richmond takes on the Dockers at Fremantle Oval this Saturday at 5:05pm.
