With Richmond's pre-season campaign in full swing, veteran leader Jayden Short has praised the squad for its approach and work ethic at training.

Short was impressed by how seamlessly the Club’s new recruits have integrated into the group and is excited to see what they can bring to the team as they approach the start of next season.

“They have been amazing,” Short told Richmond Media.

“They are really high-end talents, and they are all really good kids. They are really eager to learn, eager to work, and they have come in and hit the ground running.

“I couldn’t be more impressed. They are exciting and I can’t wait to get to work with them.”

Now, in his 12th pre-season at the Swinburne Centre, Short stated that his drive to continue to learn and improve on his craft is just as strong as it was when he first arrived at the Club.

“I obviously love what I do, and I’m excited to be out here with the boys,” Short admitted.

“I love learning and love getting to know everyone. I’m excited to get as fit as I can to have a good year.

“I’m out here doing everything at the moment, and that is a start, so hopefully I can stay out here and get to work.”

As the first block of pre-season training draws to a close next week for the Christmas break, the group has concentrated on honing elements of the game plan and building fitness through skill drills.

“A lot of it has been around our game plan, but also it is pre-season, so we are working on our fitness and getting our running in throughout the drills,” Short said.

“The boys are really pushing hard, and hopefully it comes to fruition.”

The Tigers' 2026 season begins on Thursday, March 12, against Carlton at the MCG.
