“At Richmond Institute, we believe in shaping the future of sport through education, leadership, and real-world experience,” RISL Director of Education, Damien Villarosa, said.

“Our mission is simple - to create an optimal learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired. Through practical hands-on learning and access to industry experts, we help students discover their path and unlock their future potential.

“We encourage students to become comfortable with the uncomfortable and give them opportunities to push boundaries and grow in a new and diverse environment through domestic and international travel opportunities.”

Throughout the 2025 AFL season, RISL students joined Richmond’s playing group and staff on interstate trips for games in Perth, Gold Coast and Tasmania.

Students were embedded into several parts of an AFL away trip and game day, with real-world experience gained in the digital media, property, fan engagement, and membership departments.

Not only were students able to observe and learn the ropes from industry experts, but they were also thrown into the deep end and gained experience performing high-level tasks under pressure, something that only RISL can provide.

A select number of RISL students also visited Samoa this year, an unforgettable experience that adds to RISL's international travel history. These trips are unforgettable and create lifelong memories and invaluable learning opportunities for students.

RISL is a proven pathway to a career in sports, with more than 1,000 students graduating from the program since its inception, with alumni now working across the industry, including at the Richmond Football Club, Collingwood Football Club, Western Bulldogs Football Club, North Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne Storm, Netball Victoria, Melbourne Olympic Parks and more.

“Over the years, we've had immense success, with many of our graduates gaining employment in the industry and progressing into high-level roles within sport,” Villarosa said.

“What truly sets us apart is the environment we create - nurturing, inclusive, and grounded in real-world experiences.

"Richmond Institute is more than a course. It's a place where future leaders are developed, friendships are formed and opportunities are found.”
