Sam Lalor, Sam Cumming

Richmond has confirmed its team that will take on Essendon in Friday's Match Simulation at the NEC Hangar, with the Tiger Army getting their first chance to see the squad in competitive action this year.

Excitingly, Sam Lalor will take part in the match, which will be his first appearance since early July last year.

All four 2025 draftees, Sam Cumming, Sam Grlj, Zane Peucker and Noah Roberts-Thomson, will also face AFL opposition for the first time, alongside recruit Patrick Retschko, who was traded in from Geelong during the off-season.

Captain Toby Nankervis, alongside his vice Tim Taranto and leaders Jack Ross and Jayden Short, will also take part in the match simulation, consisting of four 30-minute quarters, with no time on.

Nathan Broad has been rested after featuring in the State of Origin game last Saturday, while Tom Lynch, Maurice Rioli, Seth Campbell, Sam Banks, and Nick Vlastuin have been managed.

Noah Balta has not been named due to a minor hamstring issue, which is not expected to impact the start of his AFL season.

Dion Prestia (hamstring), Josh Smillie (quad), Tom Sims (foot), Samson Ryan (foot), and Judson Clarke (ACL) remain on the Club’s injury list and were unavailable for selection.

Match simulation is scheduled at the NEC Hangar against Essendon on Friday from 10.30am (AEDT).
