Tom Lynch has nominated Kane McAuliffe to have a “breakout year” after he capped an impressive pre-season with a strong effort in the shortened AAMI Community Series clash with Melbourne.
Playing predominately on the wing, McAuliffe had 17 disposals, 461 metres gained, seven marks and four inside-50s against the Demons, in a match that was abandoned in the third quarter due to weather.
Speaking after the contest, Lynch explained how McAuliffe has enjoyed a stellar summer at the Swinburne Centre.
“He's been really a standout this pre-season,” Lynch said.
“He's built massively, he's fit, so he gives us something, and he can really run, so we're really excited about what he can produce this year.
“I think he's going to really have a breakout year, so it's exciting.”
Richmond’s focus now turns to the Round 1 blockbuster on Thursday, March 12, with Lynch looking forward to what promises to be another famous chapter in the Tigers-Blues rivalry.
“We're in good shape. We've had a really good pre-season. We'll have probably a bit of a bigger week on the track this week and we will be ready to go for Carlton. It's all positive,” Lynch said.
“I felt like we improved again today but we've got to improve again.
“Carlton's won their two pre-season games and played some really, really good opposition, so they're looking up and about. They're going to be a tough one to beat, so we are looking forward to it.”
