Jack Ross

Despite Richmond’s four-point loss to Carlton last Thursday night, emerging leader Jack Ross is taking positives from that match into Saturday's home opener against Gold Coast.

“It’s one of those ones where I want everyone who played (against the Blues) to be really proud for having the chance to win,” Ross told 3AW.

“The other side of that is you also want blokes to be disappointed because we aren’t coming here to almost win games…we want to win games.

“I’m so proud to put ourselves in that situation, but I think the first quarter we let ourselves down, but we will look forward to next week.”

After a slow start, Richmond began playing on its terms in the second half last week, moving the ball with speed and swinging momentum, a trait Ross hopes the team can replicate against Gold Coast this weekend.

The newly minted leadership group member is also looking forward to the Tigers cleaning up the little details.

“I think knowing that we are doing so much right and that we are doing a lot well and that it’s tiny little details, so we aren’t a mile off,” Ross said.

“I guess that’s a positive, knowing you can go into these games and play pretty average but lose marginally, and tonight we didn’t do that.

“I thought we played really well for three quarters and just fell short. So there is a lot to like about it.

“We will try and train as much as we can, but as the season goes on and we play more together, we will improve more.”
