Richmond pulled off a scintillating comeback win over St Kilda in Round 3 of the VFL season on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Jack Madgen has provided an overview of how every player performed in 33-point victory below.
Kaleb Smith (30 disposals, 6 marks, 1 clearance)
"I thought Kaleb had a really good game. It started from strong defensive positions. He used the ball really well, and I just love seeing his game continue to develop under the guidance of coaches like Taylor Duryea. Kaleb created a real turning point in the game, when he put his body on the line and took a great mark going back with the flight."
Olli Hotton (24 disposals, 4 clearances, 3 marks)
"Olli played midfield/forward and was able to impact at the stoppage by getting out the front quite a bit. We are still working on the demands of two-way running as midfielder, but I thought he was a big part of our run that we had in the third quarter."
Oliver Hayes-Brown (23 disposals, 19 hitouts, 10 clearances)
"He had an exceptional game in the ruck. He had a lot of hitouts and a lot of first-possessions. Just continues to get better with each game he plays, and I thought he had a real positive impact on the game."
Patrick Retschko (22 disposals, 4 clearances, 4 tackles)
"Pat ran his wing pattern well all day. He's always the first one back to help in defence and is the first one back in our forward 50 when we're having an entry, which was no different on Sunday. He continues to buy into the system and play some really good footy."
Lachlan Street (1 goal, 26 disposals, 6 marks, 4 clearances)
"Streeta kicked a real big captain's goal on the day, and I thought he led really well. In the last quarter we gave him a bit of a roll and he executed it to perfection, which was a big reason why we were able to stem their momentum and hold on to the lead in the last quarter."
Harry Scott (22 disposals, 7 tackles, 4 clearances)
"Scott probably struggled a little bit early on, but again, in that third quarter, was really solid at the centre bounce. I think he is continually working on his midfield craft, as he is great at getting the ball from the inside to our outside players."
James Trezise (20 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles)
"Trezise played wing/back and I thought he brought his strengths. His aerial ability was solid. He made some really good decisions. I was happy for James to come back to VFL and find a bit of the footy and play above the level."
Mutaz El Nour (17 disposals, 8 marks, 3 tackles)
"Mutaz continues to show why he is one of the best defenders in the competition. He just reads the ball so well in the air. I am not sure I've seen him lose a one-on-one this season. That's the third game in a row where I believe he's been the best defender on the ground."
Reuben Hanson (18 disposals, 3 tackles, 1 clearance)
"It was his first game of the year and he played key back. It was a really good game by Reuben. He started like a house on fire. He took confidence from that and was clean below his knees, made strong decisions in the air and used the ball well."
Tom Burton (3 goals, 15 disposals, 2 tackles)
"Tom just runs all day. His GPS is off the charts. He finished with three goals, which was really pleasing to see. He continues to put himself in really good spots. It's just a matter of us getting the ball to him sometimes, because he's playing his role well."
Tom Ferguson (16 disposals, 8 marks, 1 clearance)
"Tom played high forward pretty much all day. He was clean when he had the ball in hand, and made some good decisions. I’d love to see our small forwards in particular continue to add more pressure to their games. Forward 50 tackles and repeat entries are gold."
Sam Toner (6 goals, 18 disposals, 9 marks)
"Sam was outstanding on the day and proved the difference as the game changer. He kicked five of his six goals in about 10 minutes. His forward craft and his aerial play were standouts. He scored goals in multiple ways. He really ripped the game open, and was a barometer for our team. When he's up and going, it usually means the team's playing well."
Tom McKenzie (15 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 1 clearance)
"Tom played down back and had another solid game. He definitely had his hands full down there with their crafty forwards. I thought Tom played the game the right way, coming forward and helping defend, and then was just solid with ball in hand."
Nick Collier (13 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 mark)
"Similar to McKenzie, Collier had his hands full with a really quick and crafty Saints forward in Jayden Davey. I thought his decision-making was good. His press-and-come forward decisions are exceptional, and he's really leading the way in the team in that space."
Zane Peucker (15 disposals, 7 kicks, 1 tackle, 1 clearance)
"It was a quieter game for Zane, but he did a lot of things well. In previous games, he's got rewarded for the stuff he was doing on the weekend. We just couldn't get the footy to him as much against St Kilda. I thought it was really good learning game for Zane, and an important part of his development."
Noah Roberts-Thomson (1 goal, 13 disposals, 8 marks)
"Noah took three contested marks, which is huge for a small forward. He continues to get better each game, and plays our system really well already as an 18-year-old. I'm really excited to see him keep progressing."
Leo Connolly (12 disposals, 4 marks, 1 clearance)
"Leo uses the ball really well, and the weekend was no exception. When he's got the footy in his hands, he is great; we just need to tighten him up as a high defender."
Zaydyn Lockwood (12 disposals, 5 hitouts, 3 marks, 2 clearances)
"Zaydyn had some really big aerial contests and made some pretty good decisions in the air. He is a young defender that pinch hits in the ruck. He's got a pretty tough task, but I think playing alongside likes of Mutaz El Nour and James Trezise really helps his game."
Daniel Lowther (2 goals, 10 disposals, 1 tackle)
"Dan played his first game for the Club. As a young key forward, I thought he played a solid game. He kicked two goals and won a lot of aerial contests, which is really important. He still has a bit to work on to perfect our system, but with more footy at the level, that will come naturally."
Sam Cumming (11 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 clearances)
"Sam played on limited minutes coming back from injury. If you looked at the stat sheet, you probably thought he played alright, but I thought he was really important for us when he was out there. His efforts in the contest were outstanding. Whenever he was around the football, either putting pressure on the opposition or creating opportunity for a teammate, it really stood out. You can see why he was such a highly rated talent."
Joel Garner (1 goal, 9 disposals, 3 marks)
"Joel played his first game of the year and played mostly deep forward. I thought Joel's leadership and presence out there was important. He was definitely better for the run."
Ned Renfree (4 disposals)
"Ned got off to a pretty good start to the game. He took two really nice contesting marks, and then unfortunately, had to come off with a little bit of an injury, so we'll assess that and see see how he is going forward."
Liam George (2 goals, 16 disposals, 1 clearance)
"Liam always leads the way with his team first actions. He copped a big knock during the game but was able to go back on and play a role. He kicked two late goals to seal the win. Georgie is a player that you love to play with."
