Richmond’s small forwards further underlined their importance to the side in last Saturday night’s match against Melbourne at the MCG.

Jason Castagna, Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton were valuable contributors in the Tigers’ 33-point win, showcasing their speed, ability to force opposition turnovers through ever-present pressure, and capacity to be dangerous around the goals.

Castagna had 17 disposals, seven inside-50s, four score involvements, took five marks and kicked one goal.

Rioli had 12 disposals, three inside-50s, seven score involvements, took three marks and kicked one goal.

Bolton had 11 disposals, three inside-50s, eight score involvements, took six marks and also kicked one goal (1.4).

Their collective liveliness up forward created significant problems for the Demons’ defence in the first half when it was dry and then after half-time in the wet conditions.
