Richmond coach Adem Yze says the playing group has a "responsibility" to do the yellow and black guernsey proud every week.

Speaking after the Tigers' hard-fought loss to the Saints on Sunday, Yze said he is confident that every player who takes the field will compete for the Tiger Army.

“The 23 players that are fit and available, we’ve got a responsibility when we put the jumper on,” Yze said.

“We had Noah Roberts-Thomson playing his first game. He has a responsibility, even in his first game, to do that jumper proud, and I thought he did.

“Our captain [Toby Nankervis] spoke about it in the jumper presentation, around everyone's responsibility to not only make Noah’s day memorable, but we’ve all got a responsibility.

“Right now, we’ve got a few [injuries], but game day is about performance, and we expect guys who are in their first games, like Noah and Liam Fawcett, Sam Grlj, who has played a handful of games, we expect them to play a certain way.

“They might not be able to do it for four quarters, but they need to be able to show that they can do it. We will look at the reasons why we didn’t do that in the first quarter, but the rest of the game, they showed little glimpses that they can.”

Richmond now shifts its focus to Dreamtime at the ‘G against Essendon on Friday night, with Yze saying younger players have started to gain valuable exposure at the elite level and step up for the team when they are needed most.

“Individually, you need to be able to develop while playing,” Yze said.

“But as a group, we can learn, and we will get some good learnings out of the first quarter, and then we will get some great learnings out of the response and what that looked like.

“Individually, guys are getting those opportunities right now that they might not have, so there will be growth in that, and as a team, we can still learn by sitting in meetings and understanding what good looks like.”
