Kye Annand

It was only a week ago that Kye Annand was working full-time as a plumber.

Now his day-to-day will look a little different as he embarks on a career at Richmond, after being selected in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft with the number two pick from Geelong VFL.

The 200cm defender said it has been a dream come true.

“I had a lot of meetings going on last week, so I put the tools down,” Annand told SEN

“Up until then, I was doing 40 to 45 hours a week, could be on a tin roof, could be in the trenches, and then rolling up to a game on a Friday, I could work up to 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and then play.

“It's been a challenge, but I'm grateful for it all."

Annand is a tall intercept defender who has shown courage and combativeness at the VFL level, constantly backing himself to compete strongly in the air.

Settling into Tigerland, Annand said he is eager to get to work and prove himself in the yellow and black.

“It's all happened really quickly, and it's starting to settle in a little bit now, but I’m rapt to be at such a great club,” Annand told Richmond Media.

“I’m super competitive when I step over that white line. Backing myself in the air, and then at ground level as well, getting to work.

“I'll sit down and go through it all, but I'm just keen for the opportunity and to get stuck in.”

Annand will make his Richmond debut in the No. 41 guernsey in the VFL clash against the Swans at Tramway Oval on Saturday from 10am.
