Richmond is “open to everything” when looking for avenues to acquire new talent to the Club, according to National Recruiting Manager, Rhy Gieschen.

Speaking to Gettable about the balance of attacking the Draft and going after established players, via trade and free agency, Gieschen explained how it’s a balanced approach, with the best interests of the Tigers always at the forefront.

“We looked at players last year [in the trade period] and we have regular list management meetings about players we are looking at and what the best thing for Richmond is,” Gieschen said.

“It’s not as though we stepped away from trade, we assess all the players that are up for grabs and open. That’s something we are constantly discussing.

“We stockpiled a lot of young talent, we’re keen to hit the draft again this year, but if players of interest are available to us and it’s the right thing for us, we’re open to everything.

“Blair Hartley’s the best in the business, you saw what he did throughout our premiership era, he timed his run really well with players that he brought in then to complement what we had. It’s not too dissimilar to a model we are trying to do now.”

Richmond has added two players to its list this week, with Kye Annand joining in the mid-season draft and Paddy Carr joining as a Category B Rookie.
