Richmond has confirmed Gabby Seymour and Ellie McKenzie will lead its AFLW team as co-captains in the 2026 season.

Seymour has been vice-captain for the past three seasons, showcasing tremendous leadership and being one of the most admired players in the program. She has been a member of the leadership group since Season 7 (2022).

Seymour has played 65 games since her debut in 2020, becoming a core member of the Tigers’ backline, gaining widespread recognition and respect for her elite behaviours and determined mindset.

McKenzie has grown immensely since joining Richmond as the number one pick in the 2020 AFLW draft, transforming herself into one of the competition’s standout players. 

Elevated into the leadership group for the first time last season, McKenzie has thrived as a leader and mentor in the Tigers’ AFLW program over the past 12 months, with her impact recognised by her teammates, who have voted her in as co-captain for the upcoming campaign.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Gabby and Ellie lead our team this season,” coach Jarrad Donders said.

“Gabby leads with authenticity, courage and a genuine commitment to her teammates, setting the standard both on and off the field.

“Ellie leads through her professionalism, competitiveness, relentless work ethic and commitment to helping those around her improve every day.”

Monique Conti has been elevated to vice-captain, as she continues to embrace and grow into her role as a leader at the Swinburne Centre.

Conti’s masterful on-field performances are well known, as she won her seventh Richmond AFLW best and fairest award last season, after averaging 26.3 disposals, the second-most in her career, and a career-high 7.2 tackles per game.

“Mon leads through her elite standards, humble approach and ability to inspire others through her actions and performance,” Donders said.

Rounding out the leadership group is Beth Lynch, Sarah Hosking and Bec Miller.

It is Lynch’s second consecutive season as part of the leadership group, while Hosking returns to the group for the first time since 2024, and Miller returns for the first time since 2023.

“Bec leads through her consistently calm demeanour, selflessness, curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to supporting her teammates.”
