Richmond coach Jarrad Donders has praised the Tigers' ability to win the territory battle in Saturday night's season opening victory over Collingwood.

The Tigers were in command for most of the evening at IKON Park, winning the inside-50 count 43-24, with conversion the only thing stopping them from recording a bigger win than the 6.10 (46) to 4.4 (28) result.

Donders was proud of his forward line and how it worked together, noting if Richmond continues to play the game in its attacking half, it will be hard to stop.

"We had some talls up there that functioned really well with the support of our smalls and our high-forwards," Donders said.

"Conversion will come...we owned 73% time in forward half, which is a great stat to have. If we continue to do that, we will be pretty dominant this season. Just got to make the most of our opportunities."

One player who shined up forward was No.1 draft pick Olivia Wolmarans, who was an imposing presence on debut, kicking the Tigers' first goal of the game.

Alongside fellow debutant Baia Pugh, whose speed and energy was on full display, Donders was pleased with the two youngsters who made an instant impact at AFLW level.

"They'e both very dynamic in what they can do," Donders said.

"[Wolmarans] is a key forward and has been through the junior ranks and her work at ground level, her ability to fly at the contest, she hit the scoreboard tonight too which is really pleasing, she got a lot of opportunity. Those opportunities will only continue to come for her. I thought she had a really outstanding game.

"[Pugh], you just saw how dynamic she is with her speed and high speed running across the ground and the impact she can have with ball in hand and really break the game open. To get back on the last line and touch that ball that got reviewed [for a Collingwood behind] was a credit to the work she does and what she is capable of."

Richmond's attention now turns to Saturday's clash with the Western Bulldogs, as Donders hopes the Club can build on the Round 1 win.

"It was an awesome result for the Club. Been through a fair bit of change, so to get our first win was really cool...it's only the first one that we are after, which is a really exciting piece," he said.

"Put my little spin and philosophies on what I think works and it was pleasing to see the girls get the result tonight."
