Up until last Saturday, the Tigers had played in a further 13 home games, where the attendance had topped the 70,000 mark, winning just four and losing nine.
In Round 21, 2007, a crowd of 88,468 watched Richmond pull off an upset win against Essendon at the MCG (17.17 to 13.14), in the Kevin Sheedy/James Hird farewell match, but that was a Bombers’ home fixture.
Last Saturday’s attendance was even bigger than the 83,323, who witnessed the Tigers’ last finals success - the 2001 first semi-final against Carlton at the MCG.
