Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric will remain in the Yellow and Black in 2017, after signing a one-year contract extension with the Club.

The 30-year-old had a testing season, with a back injury delaying his start to 2016, and fellow ruckman Shaun Hampson relishing his opportunity at AFL-level.

Richmond's General Manager - Football Talent, Dan Richardson said Maric has plenty to offer on and off the field.

"We've been in discussions with Ivan for a number of weeks, and we're really pleased he's staying with us in 2017," Richardson said.

"Ivan is a fierce competitor and gives his all in every training session and game he plays, and his teammates thrive off that.

"He's also a great leader and positive role model, not just for his teammates, but everyone at the Club, and we look forward to seeing more of that in 2017."

Maric said he took the necessary time to decide his playing future.

"After a personally testing year, I took time to consider my options, but ultimately the friendships and connections I have with my teammates make Richmond my home, and where I belong," Maric said.

"I believe I am capable of playing good football at AFL level, and will continue to show guidance and leadership on and off the field."

Maric will enter into his 12th AFL season in 2017, and sixth season with Richmond after crossing over from the Adelaide Crows in 2011, where he played six seasons.
