Richmond defender Jake Batchelor has been one of the shining lights of the Tigers’ season so far, according to senior coach Damien Hardwick.

Batchelor has played every game so far this season, averaging 12 disposals and five marks per match, playing as a versatile medium or tall backman.

The 23-year-old is reaping the benefits of a strong pre-season campaign, and solid finish to the 2014 season, where he played the last 13 games of the year.

“He’s had a great season so far, Jake.  We’ve been really impressed,” Hardwick said.

“Probably his workrate has improved.  He got himself incredibly fit over the summer.

“He’s back to his physical best.  He’s backing himself in marking contests, and winning the ball back from the opposition.

“When you notice he’s in his best form, he’s got his kicking boots back.  He has got a really damaging left foot.

“He’s been playing on some really good players from the opposition…and we still feel like he’s got a lot of improvement in him.”
