The Richmond Football Club is coming to the Cardinia Shire for the third consecutive year for an Australia Day weekend training session, followed by a free kids’ football clinic led by the players, on Friday, January 23.

Held at Toomuc Recreation Reserve in Pakenham, the twilight event is part of Richmond’s partnership with Parklea Developments and the Cardinia Shire Council, to bring AFL football to the Cardinia Shire community.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the Australia Day weekend training session has become a pre-season highlight for the Tigers, and the Club is once again looking forward to the day.

“We’ve had such a great reception from the community each time we’ve trained in Cardinia Shire.  The fans turn out in their thousands, and we’re hoping for another great turnout from the Tiger faithful this time around,” Gale said.

“Our partnership with Parklea and Cardinia Shire Council is really important to us.  It has enabled the Club to be involved with more communities, and as an AFL Club, we aim to be a leader in our community initiatives,” he said.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Leticia Wilmot said it would be a great day out for football fans in the area.

“It will be fantastic to be able to welcome the Richmond Football Club into Cardinia Shire again. I encourage everyone to come down to the ground, with friends and family, to support the players and take part in the footy clinic and other free activities,” she said.

Parklea’s Chairman, Andrew Facey said they are excited to be supporting the family friendly event.

“As the major land developer within the Cardinia Shire, we believe it is extremely important to “create a community”, not simply construct a housing estate,” Facey said.

“Football is an integral part of every Australian neighbourhood, and we appreciate the efforts of the Richmond Football Club in committing to such a significant program throughout our community.”

The Tigers’ training session will commence at 4.30pm at Toomuc Recreation Reserve, Princes Highway, Pakenham, with a free kids’ football clinic and autograph session to follow the session.

There will be free activities from 4pm, including face painting, mascots and inflatables, and food and drinks will be available for purchase. Richmond fans can purchase merchandise and memberships, and there is parking on-site.

Members who bring their 2015 membership card can redeem their 2015 members cap or members scarf.
