Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has rallied around Bachar Houli after receiving positive news on his mother Yamama's condition.

Houli opted not to head into the Tigers’ interstate hub after his wife Rouba recently gave birth to the couple’s third child.

The 32-year-old revealed on Monday that his mother was in intensive care battling COVID-19.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hardwick said Richmond were informed Yamama’s condition had improved.

"Bachar and his family are incredibly important to us," the dual premiership coach said.

"He’s such a prolific member of our club and I think his mum is doing better from the news that we got today, which is incredible.

"We just hope she continues to be on the mend because Bachar and his family are hurting and we’re hurting as well."
