Richmond’s Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and Chris Newman have been nominated for the 2011 AFL Players Association Most Valuable Player Award.

A total of 51 players were nominated for the award (the Leigh Matthews Trophy), which rewards versatility, ability to play under pressure, skill, leadership, courage, respect for all players, and overall value to a team.

Newman was also nominated in the best captain and most courageous categories, while Reece Conca was nominated in the best first year player category.

Entering its 29th year, the AFL Players’ MVP Awards continue to grow in stature as the only awards voted by players themselves.

The winners will be announced on Monday September 12 at Crown Palladium, and will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports 1 at 9.30pm.
