PRE-GAME

Local band, Yirringa Yunupingu will perform at TIO Stadium followed by a cultural performance and Welcome to Country by the Larrakia people, the traditional owners of the Darwin region.

Ahead of the coin toss, Richmond and Essendon will partake in a cultural exchange of gifts. Both clubs have have worked in partnership to source gifts with a connection to Tiwi Island culture, an important cultural connection for both Richmond and Essendon.

These gifts are hand woven baskets and painted shells from the Tiwi Islands.

The basket and shells are made by a collective of female artists from the Tiwi Islands, paying respect to the families of both Daniel Rioli and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti.

The card was made by Kiewa Austin-Rioli (Dean Rioli’s daughter), an emerging Gunditjmara and Tiwi Island artist.

Both gifts were sourced from Starwin, a social enterprise empowering women from the Tiwi Islands.
