Richmond supporters celebrate the final siren of the 2020 Grand Final at the Gabba.

Richmond established another record with its 2020 Grand Final win.

The Tigers have now won the most Grand Finals at different AFL/VFL venues since the introduction of the competition’s McIntyre finals system in 1931.

As well as nine successful premiership-deciders at the MCG throughout that time, Richmond also has a Grand Final victory at Princes Park and, most recently, that glorious Gabba triumph to its credit.

In 1943, the Tigers defeated Essendon by five points in the Grand Final that was played at Carlton’s Princes Park home ground because of the unavailability of the MCG due to it being requisitioned for military purposes during World War Two. Richmond avenged its loss to the Bombers at the same venue in the Grand Final 12 months earlier.

On October 24, 2020, the Tigers beat Geelong by 31 points at the Gabba in the competition’s first-ever Grand Final played outside of Victoria, because of the impact in that state of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Essendon (Princes Park, MCG), Carlton (Princes Park, MCG) and Hawthorn (Waverley Park, MCG) are the only other league clubs to have won Grand Finals at different venues since 1931.
