Dion Prestia keeps on getting the job done for Richmond in his key midfield role.
The star on-baller again was one of the Tigers’ best, in their convincing 32-point victory over Collingwood at the MCG last night.
He finished the match with 35 disposals, including an equal game-high 16 contested possessions, game-high eight clearances, game-high four centre clearances, six inside-50s, four marks, four tackles, eight score involvements and 643 metres gained.
Across the course of this season, Prestia is averaging 26.6 disposals, 5.8 clearances, 4.7 inside-50s, 4.9 tackles and 6.5 score involvements.
He is ranked fifth in the competition for score involvements, ninth for inside-50s, 11th for metres gained, 12th for clearances and 12th for centre clearances.
With Richmond captain Trent Cotchin having been sidelined for a big chunk of this season because of injury, Prestia has taken on the added responsibility through the team’s midfield in superb style, maintaining an impressively high level of performance.
“That’s probably my main focus – just to stay consistent. I guess the kind of game style I play, working contest to contest and having a lot of midfield time, gives me the opportunity to stay pretty consistent,” he told ‘K rock Football’ in a post-match interview.
“My body’s pulled up really well. I’ve had a couple of niggles here and there throughout the year, but I’ve played every game and I’m feeling really good coming into the pointy end of the season.
“This is when I want to be playing some good footy.
“I’m happy with how the year’s gone so far and, hopefully in the big games coming up, I can perform.”
