An inspirational snap by Ivan Maric against Carlton in the elimination final has been voted the best goal of the year by Richmond fans.

Maric’s solo effort came at a crucial time in the match, with nine minutes remaining in the match and the Tigers trailing by 10 points.

From a boundary throw in on the wing, the ball landed at the feet of first-year youngster Nick Vlastuin, who scrambled the ball by foot to Daniel Jackson.

Jackson launched the ball toward the 50-metre line, where Maric was in a one-on-one contest with Blues’ defender Lachie Henderson.

The Richmond big man won the battle of strength, backed in his pace to surge away and snapped truly from 40 metres out, to rapturous applause from the Yellow and Black army.
