Richmond co-captain Dylan Grimes has been withdrawn from Sunday's Round 2 clash against Greater Western Sydney after pulling up sore from this morning's captain's run.

Grimes has been replaced by Ben Miller, who lines up for his second career game after debuting in Round 23 last season.

The Tigers will welcome back hard-running dual premiership player Kamdyn McIntosh, after he missed Round 1 with a minor calf injury.

Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, coach Damien Hardwick said the 28-year-old wingman was "a very under-rated player outside of our four walls".

"He’s important to the way we structure up and the way we go about it," Hardwick said.

"I thought we missed him last week."

The Tigers have also recalled Thomson Dow and Matt Parker for their first senior appearances of 2022.

Twenty-year-old midfielder/forward Dow will add to the seven games he's played for the Club since arriving in the 2019 draft, while 26-year-old Parker impressed in Richmond VFL's pre-season outings.

The inclusions replace injured duo Dion Prestia (hamstring) and Jack Riewoldt (hand), Jake Aarts, who has been omitted, and Dustin Martin, who will miss through a personal reason

Versatile youngster Hugo Ralphsmith, who was activated as Richmond's Round 1 medical substitute in place of Prestia, has been named in the starting 22.

Richmond's four emergencies for the Round 2 match are Aarts, Rhyan Mansell, Will Martyn and Maurice Rioli. Martyn replaces Martin in the extended squad of 26 that was named on Thursday night.

The Tigers will confirm which player steps into the 23 to serve as the medical substitute 60 minutes before the game.

After a disappointing opening-round loss to Carlton last Thursday night, Hardwick said Richmond would be "looking for a response" against the Giants.

"Our players are a proud bunch... They were disappointed," he said.

"We look forward to a better and proud response this Sunday."

Tigers co-captain and triple-premiership ruckman Toby Nankervis will notch up 100 AFL games against the Giants on Sunday, having played 87 of those in the Yellow and Black.

Sunday's clash will be broadcast live on Channel 7, FOX FOOTY, and Kayo, with the opening bounce set for 3.20pm.
