Emerging Richmond tall Samson Ryan will remain at Richmond for another three years, with the 206cm forward/ruck putting pen to paper on a new contract with the Club.
The extension will see Ryan tied to Richmond until at least the end of 2027.
Ryan joined the Club from Queensland via pick No. 40 overall in the 2020 AFL National Draft and has featured 19 times at AFL level.
The 23-year-old has steadily developed his game across four seasons at the Club, showing capability both as a genuine ruck and key forward option.
Ryan played 14 consecutive AFL games between Round Two and Round 16 last season, kicking 12 goals.
The young tall was again in the AFL lineup in the Opening Round this year before returning to the VFL level, where he proved to be a prolific state league performer.
Ryan booted 12 goals from seven matches and averaged 24 hit outs per game to earn a recall to the senior team for Dreamtime at the ‘G.
The 23-year-old then booted two goals against the Cats in Round 13 and played in the win against Adelaide before an ankle injury saw him miss the past two matches.
Richmond General Manager Football Talent Blair Hartley said that Ryan continued to show promising signs.
“Samson has shown that he has the traits to be a consistent AFL player, and his ability to play ruck and forward makes him a challenging prospect for the opposition,” he added.
“He has a strong work ethic, and we know he will give himself every chance to take his game to even higher levels across the next three years.
“We look forward to seeing Samson continue to grow as a player which is an exciting prospect for us a team.”
