Ferguson was delighted with skipper Katie Brennan, who converted a match-sealing goal with under one minute to play in the contest.

“She’s gotten so much better at understanding that she doesn’t have to be a hero, as such,” he said.

“She just has to keep herself lively, and ready to impact whatever the next play may be.”

“She’s stood up in that area (and) just knows when to be there at the right time, because she’s always ready.”

Livewire forward Emelia Yassir echoed Ferguson’s thoughts on Saturday afternoon.

“We knew Geelong were going to come out booming.”

“For us to come out the way we did…absolutely incredible,” she said.

Yassir praised Kate Dempsey, who celebrated her 50th AFLW game on Saturday afternoon.

“We love Demps, absolutely love her. She brings her work-rate every single week, no matter what.”
