Richmond AFLW legend Courtney Wakefield was sure her jumper presentation to the three Club debutants in Round 1 wouldn't make an impact.

Instead, her arrival and presentation at North Sydney Oval last Friday night will be remembered forever.

Wakefield, who was part of Richmond's inaugural AFLW side in 2020 and went on to play 30 games in the yellow and black, returned to the locker rooms to welcome three new Tigers into the fold.

They were Paige Scott, Montana Beruldsen and Lulu Beatty, all bright eyed and ready for another crack at the elite level.

And bringing in Wakefield was the perfect move to inspire the trio, as well as bring back memories for those who played before them.

"I thought, 'what am I going to provide these players preparing for Round 1? I'm just coming to present some guernseys'," Wakefield said on episode three of Moments That Make Us.

"But upon walking into that room after Kate's (Sheahan) introduction, I got a sense of how special it was and how much it meant. I felt like I played my part."

For Richmond defender Bec Miller, seeing Wakefield surprise the group to hand over their guernseys was something the pair could only have dreamed over five years ago.

"Bec, when you and I were first given our guernseys, there was no presentation, because we were the first (Richmond AFLW players)," Wakefield said.

"We had little eight, nine, 10-year-olds presenting our guernseys to us. When you think back now, it was special and for them, they wanted to be like us, playing AFLW football."

Wakefield, who is a two-time Richmond AFLW leading goal kicker and a 2022 All-Australian, declared that this moment meant more than those accolades combined.

"For me, this was by far the highlight of my year. It was extremely special for me," she said.

"You have no trouble finding words, when it means a hell of a lot to you. And it certainly does.

"The Football Club and that program mean a lot to me. It comes naturally to speak highly in that situation."
