Richmond is pleased to announce the appointment of CARE Australia CEO Morgana Ryan to the Club’s Board.
The Club’s nominations committee recommended appointing Ryan to fill the vacancy created when Joe Powell resigned after nine years of distinguished service. The Board unanimously endorsed the recommendation.
CARE is an international aid organisation working to save lives, overcome poverty and build a world where women and girls are equal.
A fourth-generation Tiger, Ryan brings executive and board leadership experience across the commercial, government and for-purpose sectors, offering a rare combination of commercial acumen and purpose-driven impact.
As a CEO, Chair and Non-Executive Director, she has extensive governance experience and is the former chair of technology not for profit Infoxchange. She brings deep expertise in strategy, digital and technology transformation, fundraising and government partnerships.
The experienced executive has lived and worked internationally for more than a decade across the Middle East, Europe and Asia-Pacific and is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion.
Ryan said her affinity with Richmond began with a Tigers-obsessed great grandmother living in Dover Street, Cremorne.
“The Richmond Football Club has been a constant thread throughout my life. The Tigers are part of the culture of my family,” she said.
“My very early memories are of the 1980 Grand Final, although more about the family party than the game itself. On my dad’s side, the commitment to the club runs back to the early 1900s. On Mum’s side, it was seeing my grandmother, who came to Australia as a refugee, regularly tune in for Richmond versus Collingwood matches, and the memories and connections those moments created. That is what the Club means to me.
“It is an honour to have the opportunity to serve on the Richmond Football Club Board.”
Ryan is also the co-author of two published books focused on organisational effectiveness and leading strategic change in international NGOs and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Richmond President John O’Rourke welcomed Ryan to the Board.
“Morgana’s 30-year career has spanned commercial, government and not-for-profit organisations in Australia and around the world, making her an exceptionally experienced and well-rounded director,” he said.
“She has a passion for diversity and a track record of mentoring diverse leaders into leadership roles and directorships.
“Morgana’s family story is that of many members of the Tiger Army. Intergenerational support of the club on one side and, like our diverse membership base, newfound engagement with her grandmother coming to Australia as a refugee and this Club giving her family a source of connection and belonging.
“We are thrilled to have Morgana and her expertise join the Board and know the unwavering passion she has for Richmond and for building thriving communities.”
