Toby Nankervis finished the 2025 season in equal-10th place on the list of most games by a Richmond captain.

The Tigers’ triple premiership robust ruckman has captained the team in 81 games, which is the same number as former champion rover Dale Weightman.

Nankervis, 31, was appointed Richmond’s co-captain in 2022, together with Dylan Grimes, when three-time premiership skipper Trent Cotchin stood down from the role.

He has played a total of 167 games with the Tigers after being recruited by the Club in the 2016 AFL trade period from Sydney, where he had a 12-game senior career across three seasons.

Here is the top 10 list of games as Richmond captain:
188 – Trent Cotchin
168 – Percy Bentley
160 – Jack Dyer
104 – Des Rowe
102 – Matthew Knights
101 – Alec Edmond
88 – Wayne Campbell
87 – Dan Minogue
85 – Chris Newman
81 – Dale Weightman, Toby Nankervis

Richmond has had only seven captains since 2000 – Knights, Campbell, Kane Johnson, Newman, Cotchin, Grimes and Nankervis.

That is a far cry from the Tigers’ merry-go-round of captains in the mid-1970s-mid-1980s.

Throughout that decade, the Club had nine different captains – Royce Hart, Francis Bourke, Kevin Sheedy, Kevin Bartlett, Bruce Monteath, Bryan Wood, David Cloke, Barry Rowlings and Mark Lee.

Five of those players served for just one season as skipper, and in consecutive years – Sheedy 1978, Bartlett 1979, Monteath 1980, Wood 1981 and Cloke 1982.
